All Mercedes with motors V8 and V12, up to 1996 years, starts in 2nd gear.
Your only current options to engage first gear are to press the accelerator to the floor to activate a kick down switch (thus
1st gear launch with some delay) or manually shift the gear selector to the "B" position.
The FGSSwitch® module allows the transmission on your Mercedes to behave like most car transmissions by starting in
1st gear from all standing starts and by automatically down shifting to 1st gear below certain speeds set by you.
The FGSSwitch® has a dramatic impact on the performance feeling of your Mercedes off the line. If you have
ever felt that sluggish sensation of a 2nd gear start while trying to cross an intersection, you'll like the immediate response
of 1st gear starts. No need to press the accelerator to get it move with the FGSSwitch® installed!
Starting in 1st gear reduces the load on the engine's crankshaft compared to the higher load 2nd gear starts, so there's less wear and tear on the car.
If necessary (for example, winter period) you can return the car to 2nd gear start in slick conditions. The (1stGearStart) function could be quickly turned off/on by +12Â controlling signal is supplied to the control input of the unit. It is not required to install any additional control switches. You could use standard switches of automatic gear box modes S/E in the European versions, or Child-Window switch in American.
Additional function of module FGSSwitch® is exact measurement of dynamic characteristics of the vehicle (MDC). MDC function begins time count automatically, from the receiving of the first pulse of ABS sensor. The user can choose one of three modes of measurement:
- Acceleration time 0-100 km/h;
- Acceleration time 0-200 km/h;
- 1 quarter mile pass time.
The gained information can be displayed on user’s PC. The time measurement occurs constantly, in automatic mode, without dependence of whether function 1stGearStart is switched on or not. Accuracy of measurement is 0.01 ñåê.
Connection of module FGSSwitch® to a computer of the user is carried out by means of standard cable RS 232 (9pin male - 9pin female). In case of absence in a computer of a serial port, adapter USB to serial can be used.
In module FGSSwitch® offered by us, you can, by means of a computer, adjust the 1st to 2nd upshift speed and 2nd to 1st downshift speed, depending on your preferences and style of driving.
